Very good Rachel. You gave us your special insight into things as usual. 🙂

  2. dominick lucido on January 22, 2021 at 6:16 pm

The cop who was almost shot with his own gun was the one getting beaten by the insane whacko with the American flag outside on the steps .. the crowd yelled “grab his gun!” And that’s what made him wake up a bit enough to get the gun away from the crowd. No shots fired – at least that was my understanding.

The event is bad enough. The continued denial, lies and blame shifting by the majority of Republicans is unacceptable. Trump feels. Trump is mentally "self deluding" is perhaps A kind description.
Trump the Art of the Stealer.

  5. Aiden Kelly on January 22, 2021 at 6:20 pm

Why is no one mentioning his collusion with Russia, his trying to appease them after being in cahoots with them? They didn’t want Hilary and its now obvious that like any sane person they knew Trump would destabilise the USSA

  11. Daniel Low on January 22, 2021 at 6:26 pm

The Narcissist would Rather have worshiping hordes, as long as it is a Grand spectacle, but failing that ANY Grand spectacle positive Or Negative will do.
This is simply the narcisistic illness. Trump’s narcissism was fed by these rioters. That is All trump is able to ‘feel’, to see things from. Trump’s continued presence in the news cycle will continue to feed his narcisistic need, like a heroin user needs heroin but methadone will do.
Interestingly, this is why Narcissism is talked about in some terms like it is an addiction. The "Narcisistic Supply" is a person that the Narcissist uses to get that "heroin" or "methadone".
    (layman’s interpretation)

I’m not sure if it’s true still or was even true to begin with, but do you remember how Trump was saying that he would not take his presidential salary, I’m startimg to think that was the wrong idea.

  13. LAB 444 on January 22, 2021 at 6:27 pm

Does she really think the president is listening I really doubt. It. Her hair is not. Paul Mitchelle work for sure

  14. Julia on January 22, 2021 at 6:27 pm

    This president does not learn.
I’d bet folding money on it: DJT has lost the ability to admit that he made a mistake or that he lacks knowledge decades ago.
And without that ability, you can’t learn and you can’t evolve.

For the safety of the US: he had better be kept away from social networks and cameras, and I wish the same could be done for his off-springs. Because I have little doubt that if DJT doesn’t try to run in 2024, some of his kids will.

And I wouldn’t put it beyond the GOP.

  15. J.R Bry. on January 22, 2021 at 6:28 pm

All those causing violence, were not true Trump supporters. caught on film were several people that had been involved in the riots and lootings and burnings this last year.

  16. nora moss on January 22, 2021 at 6:28 pm

I used to think you were very intelligent Ms Maddow. You think Trump has learned something? You think Trump cares about anyone else but himself? He’s white, he will be pardoned or it will be ignored.

  20. Troy Edmonds on January 22, 2021 at 6:37 pm

As a democrat, I’m so curious to know what she’s going to talk about in two weeks. Her whole life is about trump these days. I have this thoight that she’s secretly in love with him.

  21. Marva Lyddon on January 22, 2021 at 6:38 pm

Each state should charge Trump for murder ,because he ignored the virus, then didn’t do anything to fight it ,then ignored it once again ,so it is his fault that hundreds of thousands are dead .

  22. Refugia Rodriguez on January 22, 2021 at 6:39 pm

  23. Cqwt on January 22, 2021 at 6:43 pm

"Mr President, do you think it would work ?" Sums up Trump.

  24. VaucluseVanguard on January 22, 2021 at 6:44 pm

I really dislike Trump and all he stand for. Politically I’m much closer to Maddow than I am to Trump. So why did I take so much satisfaction in on that night in 2016 when Trump won and Maddow was in so much distress? Because my side of politics is replete with self-righteous, grandstanding, smug morally superior, humourless, puritanical harpies who lack empathy for those with different political views or values and who are too often as intolerant and bordering on the authoritarian as those they oppose. We on the liberal left have had the intellectual, and cultural "talking hat" in our hands for 60 years now; and by God we have talked – down! We should not be surprised if others may want their turn, and we have to offer something to counter their views other than opprobrium and shouts of bigot. If we don’t we could be as much responsible for what comes next. The people who attacked the Capitol are the thugs at an extreme end, but they are the sharks that swim in a sea of resentment that has been built across the political spectrum.

Trump and his supporters are a dangerous disgrace and congress has to fear for their lives if they vote for impeachment as he deserves. They all need strong security for their children, family and pets. Trump is unhinged. The quicker he’s gone the better.

I really want to draw attention to the post by spondulix99. I find it compelling – so I summarize it here briefly:
Trump’s *true mission* was to *fabricate an excuse to impose martial law* , and thus to generate an *excuse to stop the electoral count* .

    Here’s the post:
    9 hours ago (edited)
*Intent of Trump’s Riot Exposed by Giuliani Phone Call*

In her program of January 12, 2021, Rachel Maddow wondered out loud what Trump must have been thinking when he instigated the insurrection of January 6. In her following program on January 13, she played excerpts from the recorded telephone call by Rudy Giuliani intended for Alabama Republican senator Tommy Tuberville, but mis-described it as an attempt to have the Congressional counting of the electoral vote stopped. In fact, Giuliani pleaded with Tuberville only to have the counting delayed, with delay to late in the next day (January 7) being preferable.

The possible implications of Giuliani having asked only for a delay rather than a complete halt of counting are potentially profound.

It suggests that Trump’s intent (i.e., his “thinking”) was to use the fact of the riot he himself had instigated as ground for declaring martial law, thereby short circuiting Biden’s becoming President and allowing Trump to remain in power. In that context, Giuliani’s attempt to have the resumption of the Congressional counting of the electoral college votes delayed can be understood as being required to allow Trump sufficient time to declare martial law. Unfortunately for Trump’s agenda, the Congress reconvened the count at 8 PM on January 6, only an hour after Giuliani’s furtive call to Sen. Tuberville, thereby undermining Trump’s ability to establish martial law before Joe Biden had been officially certified by the Congress as the next President of the United States.

Further, the fact that Giuliani sought help from Tuberville to delay the counting suggests strongly that Tuberville was already in on Trump’s scheme. Otherwise, the delay Giuliani was asking for would serve no apparent useful purpose. Whether counted immediately, or delayed, the votes of all 50 states had been certified by the individual states so that the result, in the end, would be the same in either case. Yet, nowhere in Giuliani’s call did Giuliani find it necessary to explain to Tuberville why the delay was required, suggesting that Tuberville already understood the necessity and needed no further explanation.

  45. Kathleen Austin on January 22, 2021 at 7:07 pm

I’m betting if they don’t impeach him in the Senate….courts will be after him from everyone!!! There’s other ways to convict him!!! TREASON!!!

    Who did it?

  47. Youscary2009 on January 22, 2021 at 7:11 pm

People are angry. Their businesses are being destroyed while big box stores stay open, procedural removal of every court case for election fraud, riots for months in major cities throughout the country, DAs not pressing charges for attacking a federal building with fire bombs, killing over 20 officers total. Many many dead civilians, 4 children killed, fake Russian collusion…incitement? I’d love to hear which part was incitement in Trumps speech? Funny how they don’t show it.

  48. Julia on January 22, 2021 at 7:12 pm

The US military leadership making a statement to the effect of "_Joe Biden is our commander from the 20th onward, and until then we’ll obey *lawful* orders to protect against foreign *or domestic* enemies"_ …
… is it me or does that sound like "no, MAGAs, we are not on your side?"
