Mantel Décor Ideas by Nico De Swert | Pottery Barn

A fireplace mantel is the center of attention when you have guests in your home. In this video, Pottery Barn interior stylist Nico De Swert shares some ideas to decorate the fireplace mantel. Nico shows how to create a decorative framework around your mantel using asymmetrical and symmetrical designs.

With the asymmetrical version, Nico begins by creating a focal point over the fireplace mantel. He uses a beautiful rattan basket from Pottery Barn as a wall hanging and places a large cylindrical vase on one side the mantel surface. To make it look attractive, Nico mixes in a bunch of curly willow and forsythia flower branches from Pottery Barn and finishes with fresh lemon leaves. On the other side, he adds groupings of odd-numbered objects to decorate and add beauty to his composition.

For the symmetrical fireplace mantel decor, Nico frames a beautiful piece of paper as wall art. Nico’s suggestion for making a symmetrical mantel is to imagine a triangle. He picks two Pottery Barn clear glass square base pillar candle holders and places them at the far ends of the mantel. Next, he pairs them with smaller candle holders to add dimension. He then places two pretty faux wooden boxes filled with faux daffodils to complete the look.

I would never have thought to add real foliage in with faux plants. I guess I thought there was some rule against that, I know, it’s silly. But what a great idea! I’m definitely going to do this, thank you for sharing!

I like both ideas, very beautifully done. Only thing is the asymmetrical version, looks like something is really missing in the middle. Real leaves, u have to take them out in due time so they won’t rot. Also, personally I’m not a fan of bowls on walls. Overall good tips
