Florida Keys Geologic History: Windley Key Fossil Reef Geologic State Park

Florida Keys Geologic History: Windley Key Fossil Reef Geologic State Park (June 2017 trip)
Windley Key provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the geology of the Florid Keys. Here, you can walk down into the Quarries and see how limestone was excavated for building Henry Flagler’s Railroad. Along the quarry walls, you can see fossilized corals that date back over a hundred thousand years. This is truly an magical place to learn about the Earth’s past here in Florida.

I think overdevelopment is the major cause of the coral deaths…..too much building of resorts and retirement communities!
